Another Successful Convention |
| Harrogate - May 2010. The Kentones increase their marks from the judges and are definitely established as one of the top choruses in the UK |
Over the weekend of 29/30 May 2010 we travelled to Harrogate for the BABS Annual Convention. We were the last of 37 competitors to sing and entertained an audience of around 2500. Our score was increased for the third year running and we have definitely made our mark as one of the top choruses in the country.

THE KENTONES GO TO HOLLAND - AGAIN! |
| The chorus takes a starring role in the Internationaal Barbershop Festival in 'S-Hertogenbosch |
We knocked 'em dead with our Dutch-orange shirts, then we did it all over again with a song sung in Dutch!
We travelled out by coach on Thursday and returned on the following Sunday. We seemed to be singing non-stop, although there was also ample time to sample the Dutch beers and Schnapps.
To read more about the week-end and to see more pictures go to the October 2009 edition of 'The Kentonian'. You can find this in the drop down menu for "News" at the top of the page.

CLEAN SWEEP OF DISTINCTIONS! |
| Distictions awarded in three separate singing categories at the Croydon Music Festival on May 9th. |
The Croydon Music Festival has become an annual feature in the Kentones’ performance calendar and this year again the chorus excelled, giving first class performances in all three singing categories.
Under the direction of Michael Corr, the chorus received a Distinction and a Silver Salver for its performance in the Male Voice Choir section with renditions of ‘I'll Be Seeing You’ and ‘Do You Hear The People Sing?’ In the Gospel section the songs were ‘There's A Meeting Here Tonight’ and ‘Hush’, for which a Distinction was also awarded. Finally, for the Barbershop section, with the rousing ‘South Rampart Street Parade’ and the contrasting sentimental ballad ‘Once Upon A Time’, the chorus received yet another Distinction as well as regaining the Mifanwy Pascoe Trophy. IN THE TOP TEN AT CONVENTION!!! |
| Our Highest Position Ever! |
A delightful BABS Convention at Llandudno was crowned by the stunning result we achieved in the
chorus competition. Our 62% confirmed our ranking as a ‘B’ chorus and gave us 10th place overall. Our highest position ever!
The result is particularly pleasing as fewer choruses achieved B category standard this year. Last year there were twenty whereas this year there were only fourteen; and we were one of them!
It was an extremely encouraging result, but also we had a lot of fun.

BUMPER CHARITY COLLECTION |
| £764 collected for the Demelza Capital Appeal |
'The Kentones' were in the Bromley 'Glades' shopping precinct on Sunday 21st December, singing for charity. Between 11am and 1pm the chorus sang through a mixed programme of popular show songs, spirituals, 60s pop and Christmas carols, much to the delight of shoppers and passers by. For the second consecutive year the club has chosen to support the Demelza Capital Appeal and is grateful to those who gave so generously to raise a total of £764.00 for this very worthy cause.

Festival of Remembrance |
| On Sunday 9th November the Kentones had the honour of taking part in a Festival of Remembrance in East Wickham. |
On Sunday 9th November 'The Kentones', under the direction of Mike Corr, had the honour of taking part in a Festival of Remembrance service in St Michael's Church East Wickham. The event, organised by the East Wickham and Welling War Memorial Trust, was attended by the Mayor of Bexley, Councillor Nick O'Hare, the Bishop of Woolwich, The Right Reverend Christopher Chessun, members of parliament and other prominent guests.
The Belvedere Concert Band provided the excellent instrumental music and 'The Kentones', in a cappela style, sang three songs, appropriately chosen for the occasion, which were Roses of Picardy, A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square and I'll Be Seeing You, all being wartime favourites. |

The Kentones raise money for MacMillen Cancer Care charity |
| Rehearsal night turned into a coffee evening show with guest appearances. £355 raised. |
On Thursday 25th September the Kentones turned their rehearsal time into a coffee evening for the MacMillen Cancer Care charity. It was the idea of one of the club's supporters, Sandie Beaney, who like many has a very good reason to be grateful to the MacMillen Nurses. A fun filled evening of singing in the Barbershop style was started by Mike Corr the Kentones chorus director, conducting a vocal 'warm up' which included the audience. The programme featured the Kentones and two of their quartets, Voice Male and Southern Brand and two ladies quartets Hunky Dory and Out Of The Blue. A new ladies chorus has sprung up recently and they chose this evening to make their debut. Under their chorus director Martin Ford the girls of Vocal Project entranced the audience with their beauty as well as their singing, making a good start at performing in public. The evening ended with all performers on stage singing the traditional last two songs Let's Get Together Again and Keep The Whole World Singing. The sum of £355.00 was raised for this very worthy cause and the Kentones wish to thank everyone who came along to make this a most enjoyable and successful evening.

OUR SUPPORTERS' CLUB ORGANISE ANOTHER BOULES DAY |
| Held at the Crown in Seal, Kent, a full day of games played by 8 teams. |
After coffee and tea lots were drawn to choose the teams of three to play against each other during the day. With excellent weather and a very good lunch, washed down with a pint or four, some close games were played before a winning team was announced,
If any team plays a full game, but scores no points, they have to go through the ceremony of "Kissing the Fanny". A shield is held aloft, depicting a young woman with skirts raised and 'derriere' thrust backwards so that the team members can do the necessary!

THE KENTONES SING AS CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ARE SWITCHED ON |
| £443 was collected for the Demelza Capital appeal, our chosen charity for the year |
The 'Kentones' Barbershop chorus sang at a private function in Orpington on Friday evening. Both the organisers and the chorus are supporters of the Demelza Capital Appeal and the aim was to raise money for this very worthy cause. An al fresco concert began when Christmas lights were switched on and the chorus delivered a programme of popular songs and carols, sometimes assisted by the party goers and passers bye. A snow machine helped to create a lovely old fashioned Christmas atmosphere which delighted the many children at the party. The chorus was later rewarded with hot mince pies and mulled wine. The greatest reward, however, was the £443.00 raised for the charity. A little later that evening, whilst the chorus was enjoying it's usual 'after glow' at a local hostelry, one of the chorus members was approached by a gentleman enquiring about the club blazer. After hearing about the charity collection, this anonymous person added another ten pounds, making a grand total of £453.00.

VOICE MALE TRIUMPH IN BOURNEMOUTH! |
| Voice Male gain top marks in their class at the Bournemouth Music Festival |
There was an air of self-congratulation in the coach home from Bournemouth after the chorus and its two quartets competed in the appropriate classes on the last day of the Music Festival.
In a competition of very high standard the chorus received a distinction and joint fourth place in the Barbershop chorus class, Southern Brand were given a Commendation, but the icing on the cake was Voice Male being awarded the top marks for their class!
Never mind the rain that weekend, there were no damp sqibs for us! |

BREAKTHROUGH BREAST CANCER CHARITY RECEIVES OVER £750 |
| Christmas singouts raise money for our chosen charity of the year. |
Our usual mix of popular and Christmas songs and carols performed annually in Bromley's Glades shopping centre was this year, as usual, warmly appreciated by shoppers and passers-by who gave generously to our collectors. In the two hours that we performed over £500 was thrust into the boxes.
The total was further boosted by money collected at a singout for the Carshallton Beaches Rotary Club's charity fair.
We also collected in a pub where we met and sang the week before Christmas which replaced our usual weekly practice and our club's quartet "Southern Brand" donated a further sum.
The final total to be given to the Breast Cancer charity will be £817.23. A very satisfactory ending to our musical year. |

CONVENTION |
| Another wet, but fun-filled weekend! |
So it rained a lot! A very wet weekend in Harrogate may not be everybodies cup-of-tea, so we compensated by singing well and drinking lots of beer!
We gained 13th place and recognition that our singing was the best ever. We continue to improve musically and look foreward to even better things in the future.

Pre-Christmas at the Glades Shopping precinct |
| The crowds gave generously. |
Every year the Kentones sing at the Glades shopping precinct, Bromley, for their chosen charity of the year.
2005 was no exception and the collection was for the Bromley Carers.
As expected, just before Christmas, the place was packed out with shoppers only too eager to give away their change. Just short of £500 was collected, which reflected the pleasure given to the crowds. We even received words of thanks from passers-by!

BARBERSHOP & JAZZ CONCERT 2003 Fairfield Halls,Croydon |
| Barbershop Concert 5th April 2003 at Fairfield Hall, Croydon |
This concert followed the highly successful concert sponsored by Bromley BHC for the Millennium. Instead of the Gospel Singers of 2000, we had the Neville Dickie Jazz Quartet as the external guest artists. On the barbershop front they were joined by The Light Industrial Choral society (BABS Quartet champions 2002) and the Royal Harmonics Chorus from Windsor (4th Placed BABS chorus 2002), together with performances by Green Street Blues and by the 1997 LABBS quartet champions, Sounds Familiar.
Although very successful musically, only some 800 tickets were sold, and a smaller profit was made to be shared between the sponsors, Bromley BHC and Sevenoaks A Cappella Singers

1981 . The Sound of (Barbershop) Music LP . |
| The Kentones first Long Playing Record published |
| By 1981 standards had improved considerably. There were twenty two members of the chorus, concerts were taking place featuring other barbershop groups, and there was increasing demand for record of the clubs songs. The LP featured songs from the Chorus (includin Alexanders Ragtime Band and The Sound of Music);from our sister chorus Velvet Harmony (Baby Face and Back in the Roaring Twenties);and three quartets, Breath of Fresh Air, Beaux Belles and Reflections. |
